What dissent of yours was the most important one in your career?

When invited to join an international group as the first non-family CEO, I respectfully declined saying that they first needed to create an adequate corporate governance framework (ensuring timely and reasonable decisions on matters beyond my authority, and professional treatment regarding my contract). Shareholders were surprised but accepted the point – they professionalized their structure, and I stayed for 10 years.
